7.30pm: Kingswood History Society: Every Boy will join the Navy
The Park Centre, Kingswood

H.M.S. Formidable was an 84 gun Second Rate of the Royal Navy, launched in 1825. She became a Training Ship, leased from the Navy, to train young boys as Seamen and was berthed at Portishead.

The Kingswood History Society meets at the Park Centre opposite the old Kingswood Civic Centre on the 1st Tuesday of the month, excluding January and February.

The annual fee is £20.00 or £2.50 per meeting, which includes tea/coffee and biscuits. Visitors most welcome.

About The Park Centre

The Park Centre, Kingswood

The Park Centre has been established to provide resources to the local community.

The project was initially funded by South Glos Council, who worked closely with the Kingswood community to establish a resource required in the locality.

Extensive consultation highlighted a need for a facility that could be used to bring new social, educational and business opportunities to the community as a whole.

Regular Sessions

The Park Centre hosts a number of key events for various clubs and associations - see below and right for details.

Why not come along and join one of these fun activities? It's a great way to meet new people.

Weekly:

50+ Club, Arts and Crafts, Parents and Toddlers, Slimming World, Stop Smoking (by referral 0117 3302439), Yoga, Gardening and Buggy Fit.

Monthly:

History Society, Children’s activities and discos in the school holidays.

Rosie Sinfield, Project Coordinator of Positive State of Mind & Kingswood Gardening Club writes: "Located at the Park Centre Kingswood, I am proud to share with you some exciting pictures of this new space for all to enjoy. There are a number of ways to get involved:

  • We run a gardening club every Wednesday afternoon, from 1.30pm – 2.30pm. All abilities are welcomed, from expereinced gardeners to newcomers. Meet at Brooks Café for a 1.30pm start.
  • We are looking for green fingered volunteers to join our gardening team. More information can be found out about this role at: southernbrooks.org.uk/volunteering
  • We are setting up a steering group to help plan summer activities and community engagement. If you would like to be on the steering group please email

    Community Hub

    Kingswood people now have their own community hub at The Park Centre, which means there’s somewhere to drop-in and find the support and community activity you need.

    Community development charity, Southern Brooks Community Partnerships merged with Community Ignite as one community development charity in 2017. As a larger organisation they can now support and benefit the whole of South Gloucestershire more effectively.

    Our Kingswood community hub offers a safe space for all local people to drop-in and find the support they need. This can range from dementia care, support with finding work and training, accessing volunteering, family and mental health support and so on. Our new community hub in Kingswood offers somewhere to start your journey to success.

    Room Hire

    The Park Centre has meeting rooms of various sizes for hire from £7 per hour, including a small interview room, IT suite and Arts and Crafts room, as well as meeting/training rooms.

    Rooms will be set up as per your request i.e. boardroom, cabaret, horseshoe etc. and come with whiteboards, screens and flipcharts.

    Other equipment available includes digital projector, interactive whiteboard and WIFI connection.

    Adult Courses

    We provide IT courses for adults: Getting Started (IT for Beginners), Internet & Email, Introduction to Spreadsheets and Using 'Word' for Work with PowerPoint.

    Children’s Birthday Parties (for 0 – 11years)

    Hire the room for a two hour party with half an hour before to set-up and half an hour after to clear away - £75.00.

    Special offer; Free Bouncy Castle. Also a gift for the birthday child.
